I wish East Asian Americans would have more solidarity with their darker Asian brethren to the south and west. We are really all in this boat together. I recently commented on this Chinese girl's great tan, and she just complained that it made her look like a Southeast Asian, which apparently is a bad thing.
I, too, am Chinese but have dark skin and have features that sometimes get me mistaken for Middle Eastern. Since September 11, U.S. customs officials have scrutinized me more than before. I'm not sure how much of it is just because they're scrutinizing all minorities more, or just the dark-skinned ones. Anyway, this is sort of a cliche, but racism against one of us is racism against all of us.
