I was visiting Singapore when I came across a store selling carpets from India and Pakistan. The name of the store was "Eastern Carpet". It made me want to laugh because India and Pakistan are west of Singapore, not east of it. So the store should be more appropriately named "Western Carpet".
This is just one of many examples of Asians taking on an Eurocentric perspective of the world. If the store was located in Europe or Africa, and had the name "Eastern Carpet", it is perfectly appropriate since Pakistan is actually east of Africa and Europe. But there's no reason to call an Indian/Pakistani carpet store "Eastern Carpet" if India/Pakistan are actually west of the store.
