Country of Production: China/Japan
The first China/Japan joint production ever, Go Masters took the First Prize and the Montreal Film Festival. It is the story of a young Chinese Weiqi/Go genius trapped in Japan during WWII. Racial prejudice dooms his love for a Japanese woman.
Ebert describes it as "a melodrama on an epic scale, an Asian 'Gone With the Wind,' filled with romance and action but built on a foundation of Eastern philosophy." His review is available on http://www.suntimes.com/ebert/ebert_reviews/1986/05/57480.html
