Hotel Rwanda

Based on the true story of Rwandan hotel manager Paul Rusesabagina who saved more than a thousand lives during the 1994 Rwandan genocide, Hotel Rwanda tells the story of an interethnic couple's struggle to keep their family together and help others survive the madness of ethnic cleansing. Paul, a Hutu, uses his cunning and connections to shelter more than a thousand refugees when Hutu extremists started a 100 day extermination campaign of the Tutsi population. Paul's wife, Tatiana, a Tutsi, pleads with her husband to leave her and flee the country with their children, who were considered Hutu because ethnicity is attributed by patrilineal descent. But Paul refuses to leave his wife or abandon the people who had taken refuge in his hotel...

This award-winning 2004 movie about the 1994 Rwandan genocide is produced by United Kingdom/United States/Italy/South Africa. American actor Don Cheadle and British actress Sophie Okonedo star as Paul and Tatiana Rusesabagina.
