A Chinese American friend and I were walking through a street occupied by Mexican migrant workers. They shouted "___ Chinese" at us.
The Chinese American told me to ignore them. She's used to it, she said. Anyway, it is sad but all too common that people who are discriminated against do not hesitate to discriminate against others. We never seem to learn to treat people as we want to be treated.
I was out hiking with other Chinese friends when we encountered a group of Latino hikers who shouted racist remarks at us. It was disappointing. We are all immigrants and we all speak English with an accent. Why pick on each other?
