The Pet Sins monthly webzine focuses on so-called "minor" discriminatory acts exchanged between members of oppressed groups, for example, bigotry between Asians and Latino Americans, and racism in gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender circles. Why the focus on "trivial" incidents when bigger problems like poverty and hunger exist? We believe that tiny gestures of disrespect chip away at people day after day. This form of subtle disempowerment does very real damage to the quality of life of oppressed groups. And yet unlike a war or a famine, this kind of "trivial" suffering is so easy to stop because the solution lies within everyday people like us, who can take control of our racist attitudes. If we can't even fix our own little lives, how are we going to fix the larger problems of the world? Our content is only as diverse as the people who write in. Readers are invited to submit their experiences. To date, most contributors are from the U.S., therefore all incidents take place in the U.S. unless specified otherwise. Submissions from all over the world are welcome. We also accept submissions on other issues such as women's concerns, ableism etc.
